When you give a like or a star, it's always positive feedback. Just the positive feedback causes amplification. That's why it happens that a complete banality becomes a trend on social media.
I would like to see a better balanced social network where both positive and negative feedback is possible.
Moreover, a like or a star alone does not mean relevance. I don't know "how much" the person in question liked or disliked my post. Nowadays people do like automatically, so it doesn't mean anything without that "how much" information.
I would suggest adding "a thermometer" with -5 .. +5 range. In contrast to the star, it would be fully anonymous, so user will see a total but not who voted how (otherwise people wouldn't vote negative -> it wouldn't be relevant then and therefore useless).
